Doctor Wollstonecraft’s office was flooded with light coming through tall windows that opened onto the inner courtyard of the city block. Elegant curtains hung on either side of the windows, spanning the entire height of the room and laid in precise symmetry. Between the windows was a white marble figure, standing over six feet tall, headless and elongated, idealized far beyond the human form it represented. On the opposite wall, a large portrait of an angelic woman hung behind another glass side table with a tall stone vase, duplicative of the waiting room decor. The long and slender form of the calla lilies continued the trend heavenward, like everything else in the room.
